Manchester United Play CSKA Moscow At Home

Tuesday, 03 November 2009 08:30
Manchester United will book their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League if they beat CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford.

Last season's runners-up are without many key players such as Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and and Park Ji-Sung.

But they will be confident of getting three points at home against the Russian side who have a new manager after they sacked Juande Ramos.

Defender Rio Ferdinand, who has been criticised recently for poor performances, was given a vote of confidence by his manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

"We all like to be loved and want an arm around our shoulders at times. But Rio will come out of it, I'm quite sure of that."

Striker Dimitar Berbatov is doubtful while Wayne Rooney could also miss the match after his wife gave birth. This could mean Michael Owen leads the attack for United.

Owen believes he can use the Champions League stage to force his way back into Fabio Capello's England plans.

"I've played for England and I would love to play for them again," said the striker who has scored three times for United.

In the other match involving a British side Chelsea travel to Atletico Madrid. Dider Drogba is in the squad for the first time since he got a three-match ban after last season's semi-final defeat against Barcelona.
