Charity Appeal history

Operation Santa has been and remains to be the station's Christmas Charity Appeal since 1984 and has raised over £1.4 Million for local charities and voluntary groups. To continue the work throughout the year, The Mercury FM Charity Appeal was formed.

The Mercury FM Charity Appeal assists local charities, groups and organisations. Local is what the whole point is. The remit of the appeal is not to donate to any national charities or any bodies that have a link to any political party. The appeal is also not in a position to consider supporting any work that is deemed to be eligible to finance from local or national government. The Appeal supports charities and voluntary groups in West Sussex, East Surrey and North West Kent. From days out for seriously ill children to essential equipment, the money raised has helped thousands of people thanks to the generosity of the station's listeners and local businesses.

Over the past 24 years approximately £1.4 million has been raised and distributed directly and indirectly by the appeal. Major fund raising events include go-karting challenges, Gala dinners, live on air auctions and more.

We welcome applications from local groups or organisations and normally considers grants of up to £1500 at a time. We also welcome donations to the trust from local or national business that wishes to see their fund raising efforts distributed sympathetically to the local community.
