What's the history behind Mercury FM?
Mercury FM first went on air at 8am on 20th October 1984 as Radio Mercury on 103.6fm and 1521am. After one year, our fm frequency changed to 102.7, and 97.5 in Horsham.  In 1991, the station merged with County Sound in Guildford to form the Allied Radio Group. At that time, the Group launched Airport Information Radio (AIR) serving Gatwick and Heathrow.  In 1995, the station was renamed 102.7 Mercury fm with ownership changing several times, before eventually becoming part of the GWR Group in 2000. Five years later, GWR and the Capital Radio Group merged to form Gcap Media Plc.  In November 2008, GCap Media Plc was acquired by Global Radio Services Ltd of which Mercury fm proudly remains a part.

I'd like to be a presenter, can you help?
Mercury FM’s Breakfast Presenter, Garry Wilson, offers this advice:
I started my career by joining the local Hospital Radio station. It gave me practical experience and allowed me to develop as a presenter.  Radio is a wonderful industry to work in, but if you are serious about a career as a presenter be prepared for a lot of hard work.
The best advice I could offer would be to get as much experience as you can at a voluntary station such as hospital radio.  Also when you do send off a demo, make sure you bear in mind the type of station you are applying to.  A pop music station won’t be interested in a talking-book demo, or your latest 1 hour club mix!

I'd like to make a complaint who do I need to talk to?
We want to hear from you if you are unhappy with anything you hear on air or read on our website. We will do our best to resolve any isssues for you.

If you would like to contact Mercury FM to make a complaint please get in touch with our Programme Controller, Andrew Dancey. Office hours are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm. We endeavour to answer your queries as soon as possible.

How do I get an on air mention for my event?
Unfortunately we are not able to announce every event we are sent the details of on air. However, our online Guide is a popular way of advertising events.  The details are also made available to presenters who may mention your event on air.  Click here to send us all the details about your event.
