1. Like A Prayer
Listen

This track saw Madonna shed the bubblegum pop of her earlier hits, for a more grown-up sound. With its gospel influence and controversial video, it remains one of her memorable and successful tracks of her entire career.

2. Hung Up
Listen

The single which launched her discotastic, 'Confessions On A Dance Floor' album, 'Hung Up' gave Madge her eleventh UK No.1 single and 36th US Top 10 hit. Featuring an infectious sample from Abba's 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)', it was the first time the Swedish quartet had agreed to let someone else use one of their tracks. Well, who could say no to the Queen of Pop?

3. Vogue
Listen

Featured on the soundtrack to 1990 film, Dick Tracy, 'Vogue' is without a doubt one of her most iconic singles to date, bringing to the mainstream the once underground dance craze of 'vogueing'. It has since produced a number of unforgettable performances - including her appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards that year which saw her dressed in an 18th Century French-inspired costume. It also later kicked off her 2004 'Reinvention Tour', during which she performed some incredible yoga-style poses.

5. Music
Listen

Branching out more into the dance-influenced sound hinted at on its predecessor, 'Ray Of Light', the 'Music' album saw Madge team up with little-known producer, Mirwais. With its catchy 'music makes the people come together' chorus, resistance was futile to this funky floor-filler.

6. Don't Tell Me
Listen

With its stuttering acoustic guitar and string-laden beat and defiant lyrics, 'Don't Tell Me' was another highlight from her 2000 album, 'Music'.

7. Ray Of Light
Listen

Returning to the charts after her starring role in the movie, Evita and motherhood, the 'Ray Of Light' album is regarded by fans and critics alike as one of her best albums to date. This, the title track and second single from the album, begins with a mellow guitar intro, before launching into a furious and exhilarating dance beat. It has since become a favourite on her live shows, most recently on her record-breaking 'Confessions Tour' when she rocked out on her guitar.

Listen

Released in 1987 and taken from her 'True Blue' album, 'Papa Don't Preach' saw Madonna tackle the subject of teenage pregnancy. A rocky cover version by Kelly Osbourne was released in 2002 to coincide with the first series of reality show, 'The Osbournes'.

Listen

Her twelfth and, up until the release of '4 Minutes', most recent UK chart-topper, 'Sorry' was the second single to be taken from her 'non stop, all-dance tour de force' that was 'Confessions On A Dance Floor'. Throughout the song, Madge says 'I'm sorry' in a number of different lanuages including French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese.
